Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not representing the UK Government on their trip to Nigeria, the British High Commissioner to the country has said.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived for their three-day tour after flying in together following a secret reunion in London.

Their visit is primarily to promote the Invictus Games - which Harry founded in 2014 - but many observers have questioned its similarity to a tour undertaken by senior members of the Royal Family.

Harry and Meghan stepped down as working royals in 2020, and the British High Commissioner to Nigeria has been quick to dispel any idea they there are on official business.

Richard Montgomery said in comments reported by the News Agency of Nigeria: "It's great that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are visiting Nigeria, which I understand is at the invitation of Defence Headquarters.

"But they are visiting in a private capacity, not an official one. So, the British High Commission is not involved in arranging or facilitating their programme."

In a cutting 13-word rebuttal, the British High Commissioner added: "They are not representing the work of His Majesty's Government on this visit."

Prince Harry puts bucket on head and eats Maltesers off floor at kids party

Fun-loving Prince Harry is back as he throws himself into the fun of a children’s party - even eating Maltesers off the floor as part of the festivities.

It’s been a while since the UK has seen a more relaxed Duke of Sussex - but that side of his personality was very much on show at a fun event hosted by charity Scotty's Little Soldiers to support the bereaved children of military personnel.

On another whistle stop tour to Britain, Harry got right into the spirit of things at the party, putting a bucket on his head to entertain the kids and clinching first place in a strawberry lace eating contest.

Moments into arriving at the party the Prince whipped off his jacket and as children pelted him with plastic balls. He was also on the winning team for the fastest consumption of a strawberry lace sweet.

Meghan Markle was 'gasoline on open flame' for Prince Harry, royal expert says

Meghan Markle is “gasoline on an open flame” for Prince Harry’s relationship with his family, a royal expert has said.

Kinsey Schofield was on TalkTV discussing the Duke of Sussex's recent visit to the UK and his trip to Nigeria with his wife Meghan.

The royal commentator noted that the Duchess of Sussex is “highly insecure” and “cheers on” Harry’s behaviour towards his family.

She said: “(Meghan’s) certainly gasoline on an open flame. Harry’s always been resentful of the blessed position he was born into.

“I’ve seen a lot of criticisms of the King but we need to take a step back and realise that Meghan Markle hasn’t talked about her father who has health problems, that are probably going to shorten his life immensely, since her wedding.

GMB viewers rage 'let it go' over Prince Harry coverage as he jets to Nigeria with Meghan

Good Morning Britain fans have fumed over the continuing speculation about Prince Harry, as they begged: "Real news, please!" The former working royal arrived in Britain this week for a trip to promote the 10th anniversary of the tournament he co-founded, the Invictus Games.

Some were left stunned that he didn't meet his cancer-stricken father, despite the pair being just two miles away from each other earlier this week: as Harry supported wounded war veterans, King Charles was hosting a garden party at Buckingham Palace. However, Harry has already left the country to begin a 72-hour trip to Nigeria with wife Meghan, who recently revealed that 43 percent of her ancestry hails from the country.

The pair will be kicking off by visiting a school in the West African region - but for many GMB fans, it's out of sight, out of mind. "@GMB let it go, Harry’s moved on, the king’s moved on, low rate TV is stuck again, news please," one frustrated viewer wrote on Twitter.

"@GMB you are obsessed with the speculation!! No one knows what goes on behind closed doors," another agreed. "This country is in deep depression because of a failed government, food banks, poverty at all-time high and you think people are concerned because Harry never spoke to his Dad?" quizzed a third.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry 'going against Megxit manifesto' with decision in Nigeria

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision to take a veteran reporter with them on their trip to Nigeria goes against their "Megxit manifesto", according to royal commentator Kinsey Schofield.

Schofield - host of popular podcast To Di For Daily - believes a young, up-and-coming reporter would align with values described on their website after they stepped back from senior working royal duties in 2020.

On sussexroyal.com, the couple's aims say they wish to "engage with grassroots media organisations and young, up-and-coming journalists".

The Duke of Sussex spent a few days back in the UK for a visit this week attending events for the Invictus Games, including a special 10th anniversary celebratory service at St Paul's Cathedral.

Crowds gathered outside cheered the Prince on as he entered the cathedral, with shouts of "we love you Harry" being heard as he arrived at the service.

Royal expert Tom Quinn told The Mirror that the Duke's appearance has made him realise what he is missing out on having given up royal duties - meeting the public.

He said: "The one part of being a working role that Harry really misses is the chance to meet the public – however insecure he feels as a royal, he has always felt totally secure as a celebrity.

King Charles's 'deliberate move' as he's 'finally fighting back' against Harry and Meghan

King Charles is "fighting back" against Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with his decision to hand a military title to Prince William, as an expert claims the timing of the announcement was "deliberate".

It was revealed this week that the Prince of Wales would become the new Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps, Harry's old regiment that he toured Afghanistan with.

This announcement came just hours after Harry's spokesperson confirmed that he would not be meeting with the King during his trip to the UK as His Majesty was too busy.

Speaking on The Reaction Andrew Pierce said: "First of all Harry did not need to put out a statement saying my father is frankly too busy to see me. That was drawing attention to the problem.

"There is no doubt in my mind, Sarah, the palace issuing that statement one hour later saying William was to become Colonel in Chief of Harry's old regiment, but then also to announce that are doing a joint engagement on Monday- double bubble.

"The timing was deliberate, and it is the King and William fighting back. They have had enough of him. I think something has broken since he last saw him in February for about half an hour."

But on Wednesday, a spokesperson for Harry revealed a meeting wouldn't be possible, citing the monarch's "full programme".

Speaking on GB News, former BBC royal correspondent Michael Cole said: "The fact the King has not found time during the three days that his younger son has been in London to see him is a definite right royal flea in the ear for Prince Harry – and a lot of people around the country and around the world will be saying 'and about time too'."

Schofield added: "I don't think he will shy away from the UK."
